LIVING INDEPENDENTLY
People with disabilities can live independently! You can decide how to live, work and participate in your community. However, living independently does not mean doing everything by yourself or living in isolation; instead, it means having the same choices in your every-day life that your non-disabled peers have. This can be making informed choices to participate in all aspects of society, with the help of any needed support.
There are a broad range of programs and services that support adults with special needs and their families right here in Palm Beach County. Residential and Support Services can include Alternative Living Units (ALUs) which provide supervised housing services to adults with developmental disabilities and Community Supported Living Services (CSLA) to help individuals with disabilities who are living independently in the community.

Local Resources
The Florida Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) works in partnership with local communities and private providers to assist people who have developmental disabilities and their families. APD also provides assistance in identifying the needs of people with developmental disabilities for supports and services. The agency supports persons with developmental disabilities in living, learning and working in their communities. The goals are to increase access to community-based services, treatment and residential options, increase the number of individuals with developmental disabilities in the workforce and improve management of the agency and oversight of providers.
